Party Wall Matters

Do I need a Party Wall Surveyor?

Are you planning building work that could affect a shared wall, boundary or neighbouring property? If you are, you may need to comply with the Party Wall etc. Act 1996.

The Act applies to a range of works, including loft conversions, extensions, structural alterations and excavation close to neighbouring buildings. A Party Wall Surveyor can advise you on whether the Act applies to your proposed works, guide you through the legal process and help protect both your property and your neighbour’s property.

Whether you are planning works and need to serve notice as a Building Owner, or you have received a notice as an Adjoining Owner, we can provide clear, practical advice and act as your Party Wall Surveyor where required.

How it works

  • 1. Establish whether the Act applies

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • 2. Serve or respond to the appropriate notices

  • 3. Agree the Party Wall Award

  • 4. Protect the properties during the works

Once you have had an opportunity to read your report, we encourage you to book a follow-up call with your surveyor.

This call is a particularly useful part of the process.  It gives you the opportunity to discuss any concerns you have, or understand better what your next steps should be.

  • 5. Works proceed in accordance with the Award

The Building Owner can then proceed with the works in accordance with the Party Wall Award and the requirements of the Act.
